Executive council meeting

The North West provincial government executive council met today, 5 May 2010 in Mafikeng. The following recommendations were made, reports tabled and resolutions were taken:

* That all departments are expected to fill all vacant funded posts with immediate effect

* That the North West provincial government held a successful HIV and AIDS Testing and Counselling event on 30 April 2010, Tshepang hospital (Dr Kenneth Kaunda District). It is further recommended that the citizens of the province continue to undergo counselling and testing

* Furthermore, the executive committee has resolved to implement the national campaign on HIV and AIDS and other full range of services which include the testing on blood pressure, blood sugar, anaemia and tuberculosis (TB) screening

* A provincial strategy on the issue of children living and working on the streets has been approved by the executive committee. The strategy deals with children's rights and protection, non discrimination and the right to survive.

* In addressing the problems encountered in two schools catering for the Pomfret community, the Department of Education jointly with Ministry of Defence and Military veterans will have to find long lasting solutions to those problems. It is should be noted that the school are both situated in a military designated area

* The Executive committee further supports an initiative of the Department of Education to institute forensic investigations at the Onkgopotse Tiro Comprehensive School. The investigations are endeavouring to provide quality education to all and to root out corruption in schools

* An instruction has been issued by executive committee and the provincial government to make all government buildings accessible to people with disabilities. Public health institutions will table a report on the assessment of accessibility to hospital and clinics

* The North West provincial government has appointed the First National Bank (FNB) and Amalgamated Banks of South Africa (ABSA) as the official bankers of the provincial government for purposes of commercial banking services as of 1 April 2010

* With the movement from Walker General ledger system to basic accounting system (BAS) government employees, service providers to the provincial government are expected and encouraged to comply with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA)

* A prayer service organised by the Zion Christian Church and the provincial government will take place on 9 May 2010, Mmabatho stadium, Mafikeng.

* A massive cleaning up campaign will take place in Mafikeng on 10 May 2010. This is a joint initiative of the provincial government, the Ngaka Modiri Molema district and Mafikeng local municipalities

* Mr Themba Fosi has been appointed as the Head of Department for Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs

* Mr Igbal Motala has been moved to the Department of Public Safety

* The following companies have been appointed to conduct auditing, forensic investigations in the Departments of Health, Agriculture and Office of the Premier respectively:

(a) Maseng Viljoen will be at the Department of Agriculture
(b) Manas and Associates will be at the Department of Health
(c) Gobala Dinawa will be at the Office of the Premier
