Launching the Public Service Charter the Minister for Public Service, Lindiwe Sisulu, called on public servants to take ownership of the Public Service Charter and lead South Africa to higher productivity.
Minister Sisulu added that leaders of all trade unions must lead in ensuring that all public servants meet and exceed the expectations of the people.
"As government we are committed to creating the best working conditions to make sure that public servants have the best working infrastructure. We say to our public servants they must meet and exceed the expectations of the people," said the Minister.
"As a result of our commitment to improved working conditions of our public servants, we have established the Presidential Remuneration Commission. The commission will review all public servants salaries starting with teachers, nurses and police" said Sisulu.
Minister also called on all South Africans to refuse bad service and to report it to Ministers and Accounting Officers. "I am inviting all South Africans to demand the best service, and to report bad service to Ministers and Accounting officers, South Africans must trust us. We mean business, we are committed to a new public service"
All labour unions represented in the Public Service Coordination Bargaining Council (PSCBC) signed the charter and committed to lead in the implementation. Unions added that government must ensure that managers must manage, and government must ensure resources and equipment are available.
