The Public Employment Service unit, a burden relief tool for employers – Employment and Labour
The Department of Employment and Labour in Limpopo today, 08 September 2022 hosted an advocacy session at Thabazimbi Local Municipality. The purpose of the advocacy is to educate employers about the services provided by PES.
According to Deputy Director Advocacy Employment Service Maggie Molala", PES functions to facilitate entry and re-entry of job seekers into the labour market, adding that effective facilitation will involve finding the most suitable employees to meet employer needs while increasing possibilities of work seekers to access income earning opportunities and contribute to poverty alleviation".
Molala highlighted that PES can be utilised by employers from the public sector, private sector (small, medium and large) and parastatals as well.
Molala informed employers that the Public Employment Service unit stands as a burden relief tool for employers as it assist with provision of free recruitment and selection services, saves money for vacancy advertisements and provision of psychometric assessment upon request from the employer to enable a fair selection process.
She encouraged employers to prioritize employing South Africans as the unemployment rate is high and urged them to consider foreign nationals only if they do not have suitable candidates available but encourage them to transfer skills to Locals in return.
Assistant Director Labour Activation Project: Luke Hlongwane said " As LAP we are aiming at training unemployed UIF beneficiaries through skills development, learnerships, and apprenticeship, Fund Temporarily Employee Relieve Skills which are facing financial distress so they can avoid retrenching employees, and Business turnaround & recovery for businesses that are facing distress but only want turnaround strategies through Productivity SA.
The advocacy session played a vital role in educating employers on the services PES offers.
