Employment and Labour on Free State Compensation Fund Outreach campaign

Department of Employment and Labour on a successful Compensation Fund Outreach campaign in the Eastern Free State

The Department of Employment and Labour in the Free State Province concluded yet another successful outreach campaign on February 27, 2020 in Ladybrand.

The integrated service delivery outreach campaign started in Marquard town under Setsoto Municipality on February 24, targeting the far-flung areas which are normally under-serviced.

The campaign aimed at bringing all departmental services such as Public Employment Services (PES) and the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) together with those of the entities such as the Compensation Fund (CF), Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), and Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), closer to the people across the Marquard, Ficksburg, Senekal and Ladybrand areas.

Other partners who were part of the outreach campaign include Rand Mutual Assurance, Federated Mutual Associations, Department of Health, Home Affairs, South African Revenue Services (SARS), South African Police service (SAPS) Standard Bank and South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

Emily Maneli, Chief Director: Provincial Operations said: “It is important to note that with regard to Funds –CF and UIF, bringing all the necessary documents for the claim is crucial. Failure to do so will result in the claimant struggling to gain access to the benefits they deserve”.

“Failure to bring along relevant documents has become the common cause as to why services can not be administered resulting in clients being turned away. This being quiet prevalent throughout the course of the week, is the reason why we urged clients to please submit proper documentation”, Maneli continued.

The campaign saw no less than 300 people attending the campaign daily amounting to more than 1200 people throughout the week. PES assisted about 250 jobseekers daily, registered over 500 CVs on Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) database and captured over 20 employment opportunities. UIF on the other hand assisted no less than 170 people daily and paid a whopping R 405 399 during this campaign.

The CF- the campaign drivers, with full basket of their service offerings, assisted more than 200 clients throughout the week and paid a whopping R394 230 on the spot.

Following the success of this campaign Maneli said: “Campaigns of this magnitude highlight the impact of the service offerings of the Department on the lives of our clients and the communities in which they reside in".
