Eleven injured as taxi overturns

Eleven people were injured when a taxi overturned on the R509 Swartruggens-Koster road outside Swartuggens in the North West Province on Thursday afternoon.

It is alleged that the driver of the Toyota Hi-Ace that was from Johannesburg destined for Botswana lost control of the vehicle after its right rear tyre came off at around 4:30 am. The vehicle swerved off the road and overturned near the bank of Kgetleng River less than a kilometer from the N4/Swartruggens- Koster junction.

Two of the injured passengers, a male and a female in their late 20’s were seriously injured while nine other Botswana nationals were admitted to Swartruggens Provincial Hospital with minor injuries.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has requested the Mayor of Kgetleng Rivier Local Municipality, Councillor Kim Medupe to visit the injured road users in hospital to convey her sympathies and wishes for their speedy recovery.
