Elderly Public Safety employees prepared for retirement

Going on pension and or retirement without a proper retirement and financial plan can have devastating impact on the lives of employees hence the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison arranged an empower session for employees who are about to retire and those who are considering early retirement.

The workshop held on Wednesday in Mahikeng was to prepare retirees on how they could provide for themselves during their long deserved rest.

Arranged by the Public Safety Branch of the Provincial Department, the workshop which was further intended to acknowledge the presence of elders within the work environment was attended by about 73 elderly employees who have served in the public for more than 20 years.

Those attended the session were empowered on financial planning, health issues, where guidance was given to those interested individuals who want to continue with government medial aid after retirement and social support which include an opportunity for them to participate in their society’s activities.

The elders were also encouraged to volunteer their services and promote development through active participation.

Speakers from Government Employee Pension Fund (GEPF) Government Employee Medical Scheme (GEMS) and ABSA encouraged elderly employees to continue with their current life style, contribute positively and play a vital role in within their societies.

“Skills acquired and the experience they gained in the public service should stand in a good stead as they interact with their community members,” said Chaplain Cynthia Reetseng during the session.
