Eighteen injured in R565 vehicle pile-ups involving eight vehicles in North West

Eighteen people were injured; eleven of them critically in two vehicle car pile-up involving eight vehicles on the R565 Ledig-Matooster road in the North West province on Saturday morning.

The two pile-ups occurred near the Ledig village turnoff at around 6:30am. There were minor injuries involving seven occupants in the first four vehicles pile-up allegedly caused by a speeding vehicle plunged into three stationary vehicles which were waiting for the front vehicle, a Toyota Tazz to turn right into Ledig.

The secondary pile-up alleged happened after a Mazda etude with three occupants hit a Toyota Hilux bakkie from behind minutes after the first pile-up. Nine occupants from the two vehicles, i.e. including both drivers were rushed to Moses Kotane Provincial Hospital with critical injuries.

Police are investigating cases of reckless and or negligent driving.

Acting MEC for the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Dr. Magome Masike in wishing the injured road users a speedy recovery appeals to motorists to reduce speeding and observe safe following distances.
