Education remains a priority of the new North West Provincial Administration with R292, 925 million set aside for construction of 26 new schools, Premier Supra Mahumapelo declared in his State of the Province Address delivered on Friday.
In highlighting that the provincial government is committed to create a universal quality education experience for all learners irrespective of their parents’ social standing or choice of residents, Premier Mahumapelo said that R75, 484 million of the budgeted amount will go towards classroom additions and renovations of existing schools.
“Farm workers deserve good education as do all learners across the province. Education is a firm platform through which we can build a society envisioned in our Constitution's Bill of rights,” Mahumapelo said.
Mahumepelo said that a total of 200 Early Childhood Development (ECD) facilities will be registered at a budget of R13 057 020 million as part of ECD massification project to reach 97 000 children between 0 - 4 years.
“R16, 620 Million has been allocated for water provision for 21 schools and fencing of 54 schools, R53m is allocated to three special schools for renovations and building of new hostels at Bophelong, MM Sebitloane and Rekgonne Bapo Special Schools,” he said.
A hostel will also be constructed at the new Rekgonne Bapo Special School.
