Over the past few months, the department has been confronted with a variety allegations and intimations in the media, court outcomes, and beyond. It has reached a point where MEC Mandla Makupula had to take a decision.
In the event, MEC has taken a decision to put the Head of Department (HoD), Mthunywa Ngonzo under precautionary suspension.
This was not an easy decision to reach, nor was it taken lightly.
The HoD is suspended pending investigation of allegations of mismanagement of the school furniture tender. There are matters that need to be investigated, and the law of the land requires that investigations of this nature be finalised within 60 days. These are normal administrative processes of the department, as such we appeal to the public to allow space for all due processes to be finalised.
In the interim, MEC has appointed Ray Tywakadi, the Deputy Director-General Institutional Operations Management to act in the position to ensure continued smooth running of the administration.
Ngozo remains the HOD while investigations are underway.
