The summit is taking place from Tuesday, 3 November to Thursday, 5 November 2009. International visitors ranging from farmers, business people, mohair producers, journalists and leaders of various related organisations have come from all corners of the world.

The objectives of the summit are amongst other things to facilitate local beneficiation initiatives, to ensure that locals do benefit from the economic potential of the mohair industry. It is also aimed at generating tourism revenues and re-launching of the mohair route. The summit will act as a catalyst for the development of infrastructure to support tourism initiatives in the area and the grading exercise in Jansenville.

The International Mohair summit is planned to take place every year in November.
It’s also aimed at building and maintaining sustained growing returns to the region and industry by continually building on the successes of the event in previous years.

In her welcoming message to local and international visitors Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet said: “The 6.3 million people of our beautiful province warmly welcome you to be part of this dynamic trade opportunity and to experience the unforgettable beauty and unique attractions of this part of God’s creation.”

This is viewed by many as a very good exercise for the province particularly on tourism and hospitality given the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup. The province intends to keep the momentum towards 2010 and beyond.
