The Eastern Cape Department of Transport intends to review its Strategic Plan in order to reposition transportation in the province.
This was announced by Transport MEC, Thandiswa Marawu during the debate of the Eastern Cape Department of Transport Budget Vote 10 at the Provincial Legislature today.
“We have decided to review our Strategic Plan going forward as we are convinced that the current strategy and our organogram are not helping us to pave way for a new era of quality transportation systems for a better life for all.” said Marawu.
The strategy review session will be convened soon.
She further revealed to the house that today the department was hosting the third stakeholder consultation session in East London as part of the process of developing a Provincial Integrated Public Transport Master Plan.
“The success of the implementation of the Master Plan will also depend on the calibre of staff and a proper organisational structure geared towards service delivery. In that regard, the department will seek to enhance its own capacity in order to guide various role players in the implementation of the Plan” she said.
During her recent Policy Speech on 23 March 2012, MEC Thandiswa Marawu reiterated the commitment of the Eastern Cape Department of Transport to promote integrated public transport in the province that will ensure improved access for all transport users to safe, reliable and affordable public transport.
She also called on all citizens of the Eastern Cape to actively participate in the process of preparing the Provincial Integrated Public Transport Master Plan.
