The Eastern Cape Department of Transport MEC Thandiswa Marawu together with Government Fleet Trading Entity and Wesbank First Auto RT46 launched an information sharing road show at Mt Ayliff Town Hall on Friday 15 February 2013.
This first road show at Mount Ayliff marked the advent of road shows throughout the province by MEC Marawu. These road shows are aimed at informing SMMEs about the strategic objectives of the Trading Entity, as well as business opportunities that exist in Government fleet.
Marawu called upon the Municipalities to assist the campaign by hosting the same kind of sharing sessions with their locals, to ensure that information is melted down to the unregistered SMMEs in order for them to be in the database, and be ready to work with the entity.
“I am leading facet Committee which constitute of MECs from various departments to provide a political oversight to the fleet operations, we will ensure that the habit of monopolising the system does not have a space, ensure that young people are benefiting from this initiative” said Marawu .
With regards to the car wash project for government fleet MEC Marawu appealed to the entity officials to loosen up their screws by setting affordable and accommodative requirements for the SMMEs but not compromising the standard and quality of work to be done.
Wesbank representative Mr. Njokweni briefed stakeholders about acceptable standards for each company to be registered on the Wesbank database and feature in the national database, and be considered when business opportunities comes to their respective areas, among other standards he mentioned are as follows: Company must have a Physical address, have a reasonable administration, site must be more safe and secured to accommodate state vehicles.
Session gave a chance to the stakeholders to have a better understanding of the processes and procedures on the maintenance, repairs, towing and disposal of government vehicles.
The focus of the road shows will be on the following aspects:
- doing business with Government and Merchants (Procedures and Processes)
- payments including procedure and payment cycle
- registration to F/A as a merchant.
