Having identified the challenges facing the service provider with regard to the new centralised Provincial procurement procedures and processes, Eastern Cape Department of Transport held a Supplier’s Day/information sharing session at Mount Ayliff last week.
In partnership with South African Revenue Service (SARS), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) and Provincial Treasury, the session was meant to open up a direct engagement between departmental supply chain practitioners, stakeholders and service providers in order to iron out problems experienced by both parties during procurement processes.
Delivering purpose of the day, Manager: Demand and Acquisition, Tammie Mqashane said: “We are here to articulate supply management policies and systems, existing opportunity in the Eastern Cape Department of Transport and expound of newly centralised provincial database."
Suppliers were taken through tax payment processes by a representative from SARS. ECDC took them through business support and opportunities, while CIDB shared light on the opportunities they have in construction. Price index was also clearly articulated with the aim to avert ridiculous pricing by service providers when given business.
Departmental fraud and corruption unit Manager: Sakhumzi Tshaka assured the gathering that corruption and fraud activities by both parties will be dealt with decisively. “As the unit we have adopted zero tolerance to fraud and corruption,” said Tshaka.
