The Eastern Cape Government is calling on all communities, workers, business, religious bodies, political parties, institutions and individuals to contribute towards an established fund to help the people of Haiti to deal with their socio-economic situation.
On 12 January 2010, the tiny island experienced a major earthquake in which 200 000 souls perished. Many were left destitute. The objectives of the "support Haiti" campaign are:
* To collect financial contributions from people of the Eastern Cape to alleviate the plight of the people of Haiti
* To highlight the participation of the Eastern Cape in the national objective of creating international solidarity towards a better world
* To let the people of the Eastern Cape express their spirit of "Ubuntu"
* To demonstrate that in working together with communities, business, parastatals, inter-faith organisations and all parties across the political spectrum, we can do more!
