Eastern Cape Social Development and Special Programmes MEC Dr Pemmy Majodina roars Olympia Park stadium

Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg came into a scintillating atmosphere at the arrival of Eastern Cape Social Development and Special Programmes MEC Dr Pemmy Majodina.

Majodina missed out on the first two days of this year’s national golden games held in North West due to visit by National Council of Provinces in the Eastern Cape’s Hummansdorp area.

Few minutes after her arrival at the stadium, MEC Majodina took the microphone from program director Joe Mafela, affectionately known as S'dumo, to mark her presence to the crowd. She ran from one end of the stadium to the other end calling each province by its name and Premier, to a deafening roar of the stadium. “I am here to support you (older persons) in these games because I believe in active ageing. All of you here are winners, good luck,” she said.

This took the tally of the province’s medals to 18; 8 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals. Results of the games will be announced immediately after the soccer final between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces. Eastern Cape is expected to topple Western Cape from position one they have held since the inception of these games in 2008.
