The National Commissioner of Police, General Bheki Cele, has issued strict instructions to the Eastern Cape provincial management and operational members, to intensify operations and increase visibility. This will ensure that the South African Police Service (SAPS), is always a step ahead of criminals during festive season and beyond. General Cele and SAPS top brass are visiting critical points of service delivery during the operational visits to provinces, rolling out Operation Duty Calls for a safer festive season.
"General Cele rolls out Operation Duty Calls in Eastern Cape"
General Cele endorsed the provincial operational plan for the festive season and gave it thumbs-up. This follows the state of readiness by the Eastern Cape Province under the leadership of Provincial Commissioner, Celiwe Binta.
"Criminals must surrender or they will be found. Police officers are more than ready to perform their duties with excellence by squeezing the space for criminals to zero. When criminals sleep, they must dream about police and their arrest. Public places and media space will be filled with faces of wanted criminals. When we say 'squeeze' we mean it and we will go beyond the call of duty protecting and serving fellow South Africans with dignity and dedication,” said Cele.
The Eastern Cape has embarked on a number of clean-up and high level intelligence-driven operations in gearing up for the festive season. The province has operationalised the base camp concept to policing precincts that are troublesome. There is a specific focus in trio crimes, contact crimes and crime against women and children amongst others.
