The Eastern Cape Province hosts the second conference of the Progressive Women’s Movement of South Africa

The Women’s Caucus of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature extends warm wishes to the 2nd Conference of the Progressive Women’s Movement of South Africa. Launched in Bloemfontein on the 8 August 2006, the Progressive Women’s Movement seeks to create a broad front for development for the women of South Africa.

The 2nd Conference to be held in Walter Sisulu University, Mthatha on 5 to 8 July 2012 is aimed to identify strategies and tactics to fight patriarchy, gender based violence, unemployment and inequality by taking bold steps that will enable women to participate robustly in the development of the country, with emphasis on economic development.

Attended by women representatives of all sectors including the community based organisations, business, politicians, church-based organisations, people with disabilities, professionals and many other structures where women are represented the conference will discuss issues under the theme “The involvement of women in the economy”.

Ms Baleka Mbete and the President of South Africa President Jacob Zuma are among dignitaries scheduled to address the conference.
