Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle thanks Eastern Cape people

Yesterday (21 May), the Honourable Judge President of the Eastern Cape CT Sangoni presided over the election and swearing in of the new Eastern Cape Premier Hon Phumulo Masualle.

Delivering his acceptance speech the new Premier thanked his political organisation the African National Congress (ANC) for giving him the honour and responsibility to lead the government of the Eastern Cape. He went on to express gratitude to the members of the provincial legislature for electing him as the Premier of the fifth democratic government in South Africa.

“As members assembled here today, we owe our eternal debt and appreciation to the massive confidence and renewed faith demonstrated by the masses of our people,” stated the Premier.

He thanked all the people of the Eastern Cape for the overwhelming expression of confidence in the ruling party when they exercised their democratic right to vote on May 7 elections 2014.

Premier Masualle also extended a special thanks to the outgoing Premier and newly elected speaker Ms Noxolo Kiviet for handing over the baton to him. “Under her administration we have been able to place the Eastern Cape in a much better place than it was before 1994.”

He re-committed the incoming administration to the implementation of priority areas as captured in the ANC Manifesto i.e. create decent work, building infrastructure, reversing under-development in rural areas, focus on health and education, banish the scourge of crime and corruption and building integrated human settlements.

In conclusion the new Premier conceded that he is aware of the challenges ahead and acknowledged that the road ahead will not be easy. “I call on all stakeholders to join us in the journey to move this province forward.”

All political parties in the Legislature pleaded their support to the new Premier and his government.

Premier Masualle is the current Chairperson of the ANC in the Eastern Cape. He holds a diploma in electrical engineering and Post Graduate Diploma in Economic Principles. He also served as MEC for Provincial Planning and Treasury, Roads and Public Works as well as Finance and Economic development previously.
