Two public representatives were sworn in today as Members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature by the Speaker of the Legislature, Ms Noxolo Kiviet. The two new MPLs from the African National Congress (ANC) are Hon. Temba Tinta and Hon. Tando Ngcolomba and are who expected to both bring with them extensive experience on governance matters.
Hon. Kiviet called each Member to take oath or affirm loyalty to the people of the Republic of South Africa and the Province. The newly appointed MPLs affirmed their faithfulness and to respect the Constitution and all other laws of the Republic.
The Speaker congratulated the Hon. Members on their new deployment. "We trust that you will add your valuable contribution to the institution", she said. In sensitising them about office life, she told them that being a public representative means to surrender your life to the people whom you serve. "Now you need to thread more carefully to protect the position of responsibility you have chosen. As MPLs of this noble institution you must carry out your responsibilities to the best of your abilities", she said.
Hon Tinta is the Buffalo City Metro's former Deputy Mayor having served in that portfolio from 2013 until recently. This appointment means that I am now in a new space and I am looking forward to the new challenge of serving the people of the Eastern Cape, he said.
Hon. Ngcolomba, who was also sworn in is the former Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Deputy Executive Mayor. He said "I understand that there is an expectation on me to deliver to my constituency and to the people of the Province and that I intend no to fail my organisation".
The Deputy Speaker, Ms Bulelwa Tunyiswa and the Chief Whip, Mzoleli Mrara, welcomed the new Members on board and advised them to focus on their tasks. Hon. Sokujika, the Deputy Chief Whip and Hon. Saziwa, the Whip of the African National Congress in the Legislature we also present.
