Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature's state of readiness for the State of the Province Address (SoPA)
The year 2014 marks the Official Opening of the 6th session of the 4th Legislature of the Eastern Cape Province. The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will host the State of the Province Address on Friday, 21 February 2014 at 10h00. This will give the Premier, Ms Noxolo Kiviet, an opportunity to deliver the State of the Province Address.
Approximately 1 200 invited guests are expected to attend. The event will start with the Media Lock-up commencing at 7h00 till 9h00 at Good News Christian Church in King Williams’ Town. Participants of the Media Lock-up include the Honourable Premier, Members of the Executive Committee (MECs), Provincial Heads of Communications (HOCs) and Media Liaison Officers (MLOs).
For a live broadcast of the event, members of the public are advised to tune in to the following radio stations: Umhlobo Wenene FM, Tru FM, SA FM, Algoa FM and various Community Radio Stations. The DSTV Parliamentary Channel will also broadcast the State of the Province Address live at the Legislature precincts.
Due to the volume of cars that will be on the roads on the day, certain roads will be closed and motorists will be diverted to other routes. Commuters not attending the proceedings and the community at large are urged to use R63, Maitland road on both sides of the Independence Avenue road. Motorists from East London route are also urged to use the King William’s Town route to Bhisho. Guests attending the event are humbly requested to produce their access cards at all traffic checkpoints.
A help desk will be set up at Fort Hare University for all Guests without access cards on the day of the event.
Please note that the following roads will be closed from 07h00 to 11h30 on 21 February 2014:
- Independence Avenue and Yellowwoods Road
- Independence and link road intersection (Caltex Garage)
- Intersection link and Independence Avenue (Legislature)
The Legislature duly apologise for any inconvenience this might cause on the part of road users. Community members who are interested to be part of the event are urged to visit Public Viewing Areas in the following areas:
- Alfred Nzo District Municipality: Mbizana Local Municipality- Greenville Community Hall.
- OR Tambo District Municipality: Nyandeni – Libode Community Hall
- Cacadu District Municipality: Ikhwezi – Kliplaat Community Hall
- Nelson Mandela Metro: Kwa- Noxolo – George Botha Community Hall
- Amathole District Municipality: Amahlathi – Stutterheim Community Hall
- Chris Hani District Municipality: Emalahleni – Lady Frere Community Hall
- Joe Gqabi District Municipality: Garieb – Venterstad Town Hall
- Buffalo City Metro: Nxarhuni – Nxarhuni Community Hall
