The Eastern Cape Health Department wishes to confirm that it employed Dr Valentine Ezulu in line with its policy of Recruitment of Foreign Qualified Doctors.
According to our records:
a) the doctor completed his studies in Nigeria in 2003
b) registered at the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on 28 November 2003
c) passed his Board Examination in South Africa with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. (HPCSA) and is registered with them as of 5 March 2010
d) the doctor was employed by the Eastern Cape Department of Health in May 2010
At the time of employment the Eastern Cape Department of Health verified with the HPCSA and our staff collected and verified the HPCSA Certificate of registration with the HPCSA in Pretoria.
Following the press articles which appeared in the media, the Eastern Cape Department of Health confirmed with:
a) the Nigerian Embassy about the validity of the doctor’s qualifications and papers
b) phoned and confirmed with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria about the registration of the doctor
c) the Department of Health also contacted HPCSA to verify the doctor’s registration in South Africa.
In addition the HPCSA has also confirmed his qualifications with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), that indeed he passed the board exam and that he is registered with HPCSA.
