The Eastern Cape Department of Health received 28 ambulances as replacement of those that had exceeded 150 000 kilometres. The replaced ambulances had amassed kilometres of between 250 000 to 300 000 kilometres.
The ambulances were provided by Fleet Africa in compliance with the contractual obligations. The ambulances will alleviate the under strained emergency medical services of the department. The ambulances replaced were not of a state that could give access to quality healthcare to the people of the Eastern Cape.
Mr Du Plessis the manager responsible for the Nelson Mandela was very excited about the ambulances and he said; “These ambulances will go a long way in making sure we respond quickly to patients that need medical help.”
Areas that were beneficiaries of the new high roof Quantum ambulances were Ukhahlamba and Chris Hani districts (six ambulances), Mount Ayliff (five ambulances), East London (four ambulances), Nelson Mandela Metro and Cacadu district (nine ambulances).
“The ambulances will give confidence to our people that the Eastern Cape Department of Health is taking strides to ensure our people are provided with the best of care,” Sizwe Kupelo the spokesperson for Eastern Cape Department of Health said.
