Two EC learners drown in East London
It is with great sadness that today the 21st of September 2015 the Eastern Cape Education department woke up to the miserable news of the passing on of two Cofimvaba Education district learners who drown last night while attending the 8th provincial Economic and Management Science Quiz (EMS) competition held in East London.
The two pupils, a boy and a girl were part of a three membered Grade 9 team from this district that was attending EMS. A third learner who was also part of this team has been admitted at Frere Hospital for further medical tests as she survived the ordeal.
The three membered team is from Wodehouse Junior Secondary school within the Cofimvaba Education district. Parents of the learners have been informed and all the educators and subject advisors who were accompanying these learners from the district have been referred for counselling.
The EMS competition is a competition meant to pave a way for learners to think careers at the early stages of the schooling. This programme includes Entrepreneurship, Economics and Financial Literacy. Partners in this competition include the South African Foundation for Economic and Financial Education (SAFEFE) and the Fort Hare University.
