Eastern Cape Education MEC Mandla Makupula mourns the death of five learners in Libode

The Eastern Cape Education Department (ECDoE) MEC Mandla Makupula mourns the passing on of five Libode district learners who lost their lives through a bus accident yesterday.

According to the MEC, the provision of scholar transport is meant to ensure that learners’ access education as it is their Constitutional Right but despite that an unintended consequence this time around claimed their lives. He therefore calls upon all owners of the scholar transport services to be cautious when transporting learners.

“I urge all owners of learner faring transport to be responsible through ensuring that their vehicles are in good conditions when transporting our learners. Families send children to school with a hope that will bring change to existing dimensions as such, death of this kind deprive them these anticipations. As the department, we have launched a full scale investigation and perpetrators will have to face the full might of the law”, said Makupula

The MEC passes his condolences to the bereaved families of these five learners and the community of Nogemane senior secondary school.
