The Eastern Cape department of Transport in partnership with South African Police Service (SAPS), Air Traffic and Navigations Services (ATNS), BidVest Magnum Security, Emergency services, Health, Home Affairs, South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and provincial traffics conducted a security exercise at the Mthatha Airport last week.
The exercise was intended to showcase the department’s readiness to alleviate any unlawful activities which might take place at the Mthatha airport and to give the public a guarantee of safety in the utilisation of Mthatha airport.
"The safety of this airport will ensure maximum usage of the airport by the public and boost the economy of the province by attracting more tourists to the province", said MEC Marawu.
