Eastern Cape Department of Education takes steps to normalise Greenpoint

The department appreciates the resumption of normal schooling that has been reported today, and the support provided by our partners in education.

However, we are aware of agent provocateurs who continue to propagate instability from the sidelines. We will no longer take their actions lying down. We have laid a formal complaint with the law enforcement agencies for the disruption and denial of learners their right to learn.

We have further instructed our legal team to go ahead and file interdicts against identified elements inside and outside the school that will compel them to stay away from the school premises, and thereby allow the school to resume its normal academic programmes. We fully expect that those who defy these steps will be brought to book to face the full might of the law.

The department will never abdicate its responsibility of ensuring that the learners of Greenpoint are not made pawns in the machinations of individuals who are prepared to sacrifice the future of children for narrow selfish ends.
