Easter message from Premier Ace Magashule

The Easter period has arrived and many of us will take to our country’s roads for a holiday  break.  Over the next few days Christians  will celebrate Easter and Jews will mark the festival of Passover.

On behalf of the Free State Provincial Government, I would like to urge the Church to pray for the safety of our people on the roads during this busy Easter weekend.

Previous records indicate that the Easter period is the busiest for Free State’s roads. High traffic volumes are expected during the big rush on Easter weekend.

I would like to make an appeal to all road users to take care and to be tolerant towards each other on the road. Drinking and driving is a serious offence. Make sure that your vehicle is in roadworthy condition before departure. All lights and indicators, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, exhaust system and tyres should be carefully examined for faults. It is a fact that unroadworthy vehicles account for many fatalities on our roads.

Obey the rules of the road and carry your driver’s license with you. Plan your trip to your holiday destination and give yourself enough time to reach the destination. Always wear your seat belt and check to see that everyone in the car is wearing theirs.

Please do not overload your vehicles and try to avoid driving after dark if possible. Have a good rest before you embark on your journey. Take rest stops every 2 hours or 200km.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those men and women in uniform (enforcement officers, emergency services and health personnel) as you will spend the upcoming holiday period working to keep us all safe.

We thank you for making this sacrifice for the benefit of all our people. Lastly, as government, we would like to warn those who are law unto themselves that they should obey traffic rules or else they will face the full might of the law.

We will leave no stone unturned as we tighten the grip on lawlessness during this Easter period. May you and your family have safe Easter.

Let’s all Arrive Alive.
