A destitute family from Ziphunzana village in S’bangweni, Mthatha which has been living in a dilapidated shack with four children and two grandchildren will now spend their first Easter holiday in a four rooms fully furnished home built by provincial human settlements with its alternative technology methods.
This is part of immediate intervention to provide decent houses to vulnerable groups in the province with the use of alternative methods from brick and mortar which are quicker to build.
Angelina Mzamo is an unemployed mother of four children and two grand children who lived in a shack with leaking roofs and unbearable living conditions with her four children and two grand children. The Mzamo family has already occupied their fully furnished home and will now spend the Easter holidays in a decent shelter with no leaking roofs and pouring water during rainy days.
This is one of the interventions made by the department to assist vulnerable groups. An elderly woman has also been helped in Mqanduli with fully furnished home built with alternative technology last month.
The department has also identified 10 destitute families under the vulnerable group programme and has approved subsidies for them whose houses will be built using the alternative technology methods. Houses for these people are currently under construction.
