the dti wins Top Performing Government Department Award

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) won the Top Performing Government Department Award at the 11th Annual National Business Awards ceremony held in Johannesburg on Friday.

The National Business Awards recognise the success, innovation and ethics of the South African companies and organisations across all industry sectors. The awards also honour South Africa’s industry leaders through the acknowledgement of innovative business processes, product development, enterprise, sustainability and overall business success.

The Director-General of the dti, Mr Lionel October said he was humbled to have received such a prestigious award, especially one that is awarded by the private sector.

“The efforts of the dti staff in bringing services closer to the people, our continuous engagement with our stakeholders, and the good work that we continuously do in our communities are being recognised. We are very pleased to see the fruits of our efforts,” said October.

October also said he was happy to see the work being done by the department growing and that the people they are serving are finally getting the message.

“It is also pleasing to see our mutually beneficial relationship with the private sector improving. We will continue to work with different industries to fulfil our mandate of creating decent jobs and growing the economy,” he added.

October thanked the entire staff of the dti for their hard work and dedication and said the award truly belong to them.
