Seventy two South African companies will get an opportunity to showcase their products and services in the Peoples Republic of China when they participate in the South African Expo that will take place in Beijing from 24 to 26 November 2011 and Shanghai from 28 to 30 November 2011. The companies’ participation has been made possible by Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), through its Export Marketing and Investment Assistance (EMIA).
According the dti’s Director-General, Mr Lionel October, who will be leading a business delegation to the two Chinese cities, the Expo is a follow-up to a commitment that China made to assist South Africa increase its export of value-added products to the country.
“Subsequent to South Africa’s recent admittance into the Brics group of countries, the People’s Republic of China committed itself to assisting South Africa increase export of value-added products to that country. South Africa will utilise this platform for purposes of both penetrating the Chinese market and the attraction of foreign direct investment. This opportunity applies to companies seeking to attract foreign direct investment and project owners and managers seeking joint venture partnerships,” said Mr October.
He added that there will also be business-to-business meetings and seminars with specific focus in the sectors of mining, metals and capital equipment, engineering electronics and ICT, chemicals, automotives and agro-processing.
