Driver killed and two injured in N4 road accident outside Brits

A fifty-three year old truck driver died and two passengers sustained minor injuries in a road accident on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway near Majakaneng outside Brits on Thursday afternoon.

It is alleged that the truck driver drove into the back of a Kia two-ton construction vehicle which was pulling a trailer transporting construction equipment and material at around 04h20.

One of the long iron rods that were on the trailer pierced through truck’s windscreen and cut through the man chest killing him instantly, two of the nine passengers who were at the back of the construction bakkie which was also driving from Rustenburg towards Brits were taken to Brits Provincial Hospital after sustaining minor injuries in the accident. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and reckless driving.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa wishes to convey condolences to the family of the man who died in the accident and also wishes the injured passengers a speedy recovery. MEC Yawa appeals to motorist to drive within the permissible speed limit and to observe safe following distances
