North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa says that drivers who become drowsy or fall asleep at the wheel contributes to unnecessary crashes and loss of lives.
The comment follows the death of a passenger after a side sweep and a head on collision accident that involved three vehicles with Gauteng registrations. Four other road users were injured, three seriously and one slight in the accident that occurred on the Bakwena Platinum N4 highway between Arnoldistad and Kroondal off ramp outside Rustenburg around 22h20 on Friday night.
It would appear that the driver of the Ford Ranger either fell asleep while driving. He side swept an oncoming Toyota Tazz before colliding head-on with a white Volkswagen Polo resulting in the death of a passenger in the vehicle.
North West police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, reckless and or negligent driving against the driver of the Ford Ranger.
