The community of Boksburg together with the parents of the learners of Edenglen Primary School realised their dream when they managed to fundraise R3,6 million which was used to refurbish the Resource Centre at the school. This idea of raising funds to refurbish school was conceived five years ago.
Gauteng MEC Barbara Creecy attended the opening ceremony of the Resource Centre and thanked all for going the extra mile. "Congratulations to all who made it possible for our learners to have a fully functional Resource Centre here at Endenglen Primary School. I am proud that you are making the education of our children a societal priority. Keep up the good work," said MEC Creecy.
The Resource Centre comprises forty computers, three interactive white boards, an auditorium and a media centre. The money collected from the three-years of fundraising for the school, will help to replace four prefab buildings with brick and mortar. The development of the resource centre will now allow the learners an unlimited ability to use reference material for assignments or read books for enjoyment.
Mrs Dian Rademan the school Principal said: "We plan to increase and promote reading for interest and pleasure. We are inculcating the culture of reading at an early age."
She further added that fundraising took a lot of hard work by giving up many hours over the weekend including the evenings in order to realise their dream. She thanked all who were involved in the project for the extra dedication in making the school project a breath taking success.
The Resource Centre's primary objective is to improve teaching and learning and also to inspire the dynamic teaching staff who can use all the media available to present exciting and stimulating lessons while adding fun.
