The DoL’s Unemployment Insurance Fund UIF partners with the SABC Radio to educate clients about its processes and benefits

The Department of Labour’s (DoL) Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has embarked on an awareness campaign educating its clients about the processes to follow when applying for UIF Benefits. The Campaign is done through the partnership of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC Radio).

The awareness campaign will generally advertise services of the Fund on 11 Radio Stations namely; Phalaphala, Munghana Lonene, Thobela FM, Ligwalagwala FM, Ikwekwezi, Motsweding, Lesedi, Ukhozi, Umhlobo Wenene, SA FM and Radio Sonder Grense (RSG).

The listeners on the SABC airwaves will be informed about the UIF for a period of up to six weeks on 30 minutes slots. The Radio Campaign will allow listeners to call in during the campaign. All radio programs will be used to educate the UIF clients and will accommodate 11 official languages.

The first leg of the campaign kicked-off on February 14 and was broadcast on Phalaphala FM in Limpopo. Phalaphala FM covers for predominantly Venda speaking listeners, the show was received very well with the first topic being generally about “What the UIF is about and how it caters for the people”.

The various Radio stations that will be conducting the interviews will have specialist from the Fund informing the listeners about components of the Fund through five different topics that will be discussed for the duration of the campaign.
