'Dlamini-Zuma will take the African Union to new heights' says Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet

Today we woke up to great news that our very own Minister of Home Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has been entrusted with the mammoth task of leading the African Union (AU) Commission. She becomes the first woman to lead this institution, and that on its own shows that institutions in our continent are maturing and do realise the important role that a woman can play in leadership positions.

The men and women who participated in the voting for the election of the new AU Commission Chairperson have confirmed our long held belief, that she is ready to lead this institution. Her vast experience accumulated over years of dedication and excellent work in African Affairs will stand her in good stead in her new position.

We pledge to give her support in all her endeavors to create an Africa that is united, free of poverty and strife, an Africa that is free of wars and underdevelopment. We will be beside her all the time to ensure that she succeeds in building an Africa that is at peace with itself.

Nobody is going to give that Africa to us on a silver plate, it is only us, Africans, who should work together with the new AU Commission Chairperson to rid our continent of the ills that our people still face.

Once again congratulations to Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and we wish her all the best in her new position.
