The Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Mr Richard Baloyi regrets to announce the departure of the Director-General (DG) of the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), Mr Themba Maseko after a brief stay in the department.
Minister Baloyi and Mr Maseko have been in discussions for weeks following Mr Maseko's request to be released early from his contract which was due to end at the end of June 2012.
Mr Maseko has been in government for 16 years. His career in the public service includes a stint as a Member of Parliament in 1994, Head of Education (Superintendent-General) in the Gauteng government, Director-General of Public Works and CEO of GCIS prior to his transfer to the post of Director-General DPSA.
Minister Baloyi has accepted Mr Maseko's request to be released early. Mr Maseko's last day of service will be 22 July 2011.
In his letter to the Minister requesting to be released early from his contract, Mr Maseko stated that "I believe I have served the South African public for the past 16 years to the best of my ability. I take the opportunity to thank the South African government for having given me the opportunity to serve.
In leaving the service, I am confident that with the pool of talent in the country, there are other South Africans who will be available to step in to make their own contributions. I look forward to spend quality time with my family."
Minister Baloyi wishes Maseko well in his future endeavours.
The Minister has appointed Deputy Director-General Mr Kenny Govender as Acting Director-General of the DPSA.
