The SA Air Force Hawk Lead-In fighter trainer aircraft pilot who passed away untimely during the afternoon of Tuesday, 08 March 2011 at Air Force Base Makhado in the Limpopo Province, was Second Lieutenant (2Lt) Richardt Llewelyn Lavis (24) from Vryburg in the Northern Cape.
An autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the cause of his death. Funeral service will be held at Air Force Base Makhado on Monday, 14 March 2011 at 10h00. He is survived by his mother and brother.
The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, the acting Chief of the SA National Defence Force, Lieutenant General Themba Matanzima and the Chief of the SA Air Force, Lieutenant General Carlo Gagiano have conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased pilot.
