On concluding his household visits in the Manthe village Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said, "there is a lot of potential in this community and this can be realised if all spheres of government work together to ensure fast paced service delivery."
The Deputy President, accompanied by Premier of the North West, Thandi Modise and Members of the Executive Council, is in Taung on his War on Poverty campaign. He had an opportunity to interact with members of six households identified through profiling by the War on Poverty programme.
Concurrent to his visits, other Ministers visited 34 other households in Manthe village. They include Ministers Ebrahim Patel of Economic Development, Collins Chabane of Monitoring and Evaluation and Deputy Ministers Yunus Carrim of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Godfrey Oliphant of Energy, Thulas Nxesi of Rural Development and Land Reform and Rejoice Mabudafhasi of Water and Environmental Affairs.
The Deputy President also paid a courtesy visit to the Kgotla of Kgosi Nyoko Charles Motlhabane of the Bagamaidi Tribe in Manthe village.
The delegates found that the households visited required basic services such as housing, sanitation as well as a permanent income stream.
A number of successes were also recorded during these household visits, including that Kelebone Makhabo who was given a bursary to study social work at the University of the North West where she is now in her second year of study. Kelebone has also trained as an auxiliary social worker and has a one year diploma qualification.
The Deputy President and the delegation will participate in a community meeting, where members of the community will be able to raise issues concerning service delivery in the Greater Taung Municipality.
