Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe concludes his working visit to the Nordic Countries

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on Monday, 24 October 2011, concluded his working visit to the Nordic countries.

Deputy President Motlanthe’s Nordic visit started in Sweden, between 19 to 22 October 2011 where he participated in the Bi-National Commission (BNC) and other consultations which saw South Africa and Sweden strengthening political and economic relations.

Following the conclusion of the BNC, Deputy President proceeded to the Kingdom of Denmark for further consultations and high-level meetings with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark, Ms Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

They discussed ways of strengthening the existing political and economic relations between the Republic of South Africa and the Kingdom of Denmark. This was made evident by the convening of the business seminar which brought together the captains of industry of the two countries.

The South African Minister of Energy Ms Dipuo Peters and her Danish counterpart signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the ‘Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency’.

During his visit in the Kingdom of Denmark, Deputy President Motlanthe was accompanied by the Minister of Energy Ms Dipuo Peters, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Mr Marius Fransman, Deputy Minister of Higher Education Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize and the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Ms Thandi Tobias-Pokolo.
