Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has today, 5 October 2010, arrived in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to commence his two day official visit.
Deputy President Motlanthe will hold meetings with his counterpart, the Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Ms Nguyen Thi Doan and other Vietnamese dignitaries.
The two principals will later witness the signing of the agreement between the governments of the Republic of South Africa and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on cooperation in the field of tourism.
Both countries will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of water resources. These documents will be signed by the South African Minister of Tourism, Mr van Schalkwyk with his Vietnamese counterpart.
Deputy president will pay a courtesy call on the country's Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr Nguyen Tan Dung and on a senior member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Mr Truong Tan Sang.
During this working visit, Deputy President Motlanthe will be supported by the Minister of Tourism Mr van Schalkwyk and the Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Mabudafhasi.
This working visit coincides with the country's celebration of 1 000 years of the founding of the City of Hanoi.
Our Minister of Arts and Culture Ms Lulu Xingwana will represent South Africa on this momentous occasion.
