Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe arrives in New Zealand

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe arrived in Auckland, New Zealand today, 9 September 2011, to commence his working visit.  

The Deputy President’s visit aims at strengthening political, cultural and economic relations that already exist between South Africa and New Zealand.

Later in the day Deputy President Motlanthe will meet with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, The Right Honourable John Key.

Deputy President will also attend the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup on Friday, 9 September, before proceeding to Wellington where he will visit the Springbok team at their camp to give them moral support ahead of their opening World Cup game against Wales.

Deputy President Motlanthe will be accompanied by the following Ministers:

  • Mr Fikile Mbalula: Sports and Recreation
  • Mr Rob Davies: Trade and Industry
  • Mr Paul Mashatile: Arts and Culture
  • and Deputy Minister of Sports and Recreation Mr Gert Oosthuizen
