Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on Thursday 7 June 2012, arrived in Ankara, to commence his two day working visit to the Republic of Turkey.
The purpose of the visit is to further strengthen existing bilateral, political and economic relations between the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Turkey.
Relations between the two countries will be elevated to a higher level with the signing of the South Africa-Turkey Bi-National Commission (BNC) which will be co-chaired by both Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe and the Prime Minister of Turkey Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Deputy President Motlanthe will meet with Prime Minister Erdogan, to discuss among others, cooperation on energy and defence.
Deputy President Motlanthe is accompanied by the Minister of Energy Ms Dipuo Peters, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Ms Lindiwe Sisulu and the Deputy Minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation Mr Ebrahim Ebrahim.
