Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe congratulated the Regenesys graduates and encouraged them to share their success and elevate others as they progress in their chosen professions. Regenesys, a rapidly growing management and leadership education and training institution, held its graduation ceremony in Sandton on 4 August 2010.
“We trust that your achievements will not be yours alone but that you will attempt to lift others as you climb the ladder in your chosen profession in either the private or public sector,” said Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe.
The Deputy President further encouraged graduates to plough back to their communities and said “For the sake of posterity, it is important for you to know your responsibility in ploughing back to your communities and crucially, giving back to our planet.”
“While you pursue your individual goals, without a doubt you are obliged to also consider the implications of your actions on both the planet and the people,” he said.
The Deputy President also encouraged graduates, as leaders of tomorrow, to engage in good governance practices.
“Graduates have to negotiate with several questions touching on their personal obligations to their companies versus their duty towards the public good,” he said.
He drew examples from the recent BP oil spillage in the Gulf of Mexico and the Fidentia debacle as reminders of paths good leaders need to avoid.
