Good Morning.

I am excited to be here this morning to mark the 39th Anniversary of 1976. Handing over of these houses here today is indeed a symbol of showing that the sacrifices of those heroes and heroines were not in vain. We are doing so Premier remembering that in this very province one of our own and many others Peter Mokabe will never be forgotten.

As we continue to pick up those fallen spears may their souls rest in peace as they spirit continue to linger on. Our presence here today bares testimony to the fact that also in this month we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historic document of our people, The Freedom Charter particularly that clause that says “There shall be houses, security and comfort.

As we hand over 189 units this is indeed a step in the positive direction. We call upon you beneficiaries to please look after these units well as three years down the line we would like to see these units as beautiful as they are today. As Human Settlements these are the kind of projects we pride ourselves when we see quality work of this nature delivered to our communities and more especially our people.

A home is an important asset to all families because this is your place of shelter, safety and warmth. And will change your lives for the better and your children to.

And at the core of human settlements mission we aim to build sustainable, integrated communities and quality houses which are close to social amenities like schools, clinics, parks, malls and places of work.

But most importantly you can see these are houses of good quality this shows very clearly that we bringing back the dignity of our people. The fact that you are poor does not mean you don’t matter. You have the right to dignity and this ANC caring government will ensure that you are given that dignity.

We urge you once more to please pay your rents. You must remember you have rights but those rights go with responsibilities. The cherry on top is that these houses are so unique in that hotels were demolished as they were hostels for men only built in the apartheid era. And now this new government have formed family units indeed that are a good story to tell.

I am happy also as we always say as we build houses we must build communities. The centrality of these houses next to this community will give hope to those who are not given houses today but they will be offered housing opportunities as time goes by. As Rome was not build over one day.

Most importantly that more than 245 job opportunities were created by this project and I am excited about that.

But MEC the issue of the 1956 project and the youth empowerment can never be postponed.

It is one of those agenda’s that are compulsory and I am happy you have highlighted and we will sit down with you and we need commitment Premier. Because these young people are the future of tomorrow and if we don’t empower them in terms jobs and being contractors we have no future.

Executive Mayor let’s give the entire team that worked on this project a round of applause for making the dreams of thousands of beneficiaries a reality.

This project ladies and gentlemen also compromises of units specially made to accommodate people with disability and that is a sign of a caring government
that is inclusive of all.

But I want to emphasise on this point to say to the beneficiaries this is your heritage and your legacy for your children and family. Take care of your houses please, maintain your homes and pay your rental fees so we can continue to build more successful projects like these in Limpopo. Government can’t build houses alone; we need you to build our country.

Siyaqhuba MEC, Phambili Seshego Phambili!

Phambili Human Settlements Phambili!

I thank you.
