The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Thandi Tobias-Pokolo officially launched the Youth Enterprise Development Programme at the Khomanisan Community Hall in Andriesvale, Northern Cape, yesterday.
The Youth Enterprise Development Programme is the dti’s response to Government’s New Growth Path to provide bold, imaginative and effective strategies that will help create millions of jobs that the country needs. Its purpose is to create awareness about the dti’s products and services, as well as the small business support services offered by its agencies.
"The programme also seeks to reinforce government’s commitment to empowering rural and peri-urban communities to accelerate job creation and sustainable economic development in the country,” said Deputy Minister Tobias-Pokolo.
According to the Deputy Minister, the Youth Enterprise Development Programme aims to encourage the youth to be economically active by creating sustainable businesses, particularly in the cooperatives sector.
The programme will be rolled-out to all nine provinces and will afford the youth an opportunity to interact with officials from the dti and its agencies including the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), The Enterprise Organisation (TEO), and the Cooperatives Unit. The youth will also be informed about how to access financial and non-financial assistance from the dti and its agencies.
