The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Mzwandile Masina has arrived in Accra, Ghana where he is leading a delegation of South African business people for the Outward Selling and Investment Mission taking place from 17-19 August 2015.
The objective of the mission is to create market access of South African value added products and services into Africa and also to increase trade and investment, as well as to deepen bilateral relations between South Africa and Ghana.
Masina said the mission will expose South African businesses to further linkages and opportunities to export value added manufactured products and services and to also exploit investment opportunities.
“The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will continue to expose South African businesses to the prevailing business opportunities in the Ghanaian market with the intention of improving trade and investment flows with South Africa,” he added.
Masina also explained that this was part of the implementation plan of the Memorandum of Understanding on Economic and Technical Cooperation signed in 2011 to intensify efforts of cooperation from both sides.
Masina will address a business seminar which will be attended by the Ghanaian business sector and the South African business delegation today.
His programme will also include bilateral meetings with the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in Ghana Mr Kweku Hagan, Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Alhaji Fuseini, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Hanna Tetteh, Chief Operating Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Mr Carl Nelson.
In the period 2010-2014 total trade between the two countries has seen an upward trend, mostly driven by Ghana’s exports of petroleum into the South African market. This has propelled Ghana as one of the few countries on the continent that South Africa has a deficit with.
