Today, the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi led Mandela Month activities at Zamimpilo Special School in Ceza Village, Ulundi Local Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal.
Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi adopted Zamimpilo Special School in honour of the father of our nation Tata Madiba and as part of nation building and social cohesion. The school caters for 105 learners with special needs. Upon adoption of the school, she commissioned a needs assessment which resulted in numerous needs being identified to reinforce learning and teaching.
Speaking at the school, Mabudafhasi, said “I would like to thank good Samaritans, government departments, municipalities, private sector and public entities that came on board to donate items and volunteer services amongst others: stationery, book shelves, beds, blankets, chairs, tables, plumbing, Jojo water tank, 2 television sets, bags, painting the school and many more.”
Prior to the activities of the day, the Deputy Minister hoisted a flag at Zamimpilo Special School as part of the Department of Arts and Culture’s Flag in all schools project. She also handed-over a CD toolkit of the national anthem and national symbols booklets to the school. “This project is aimed at promoting and popularizing the national flag, national anthem, the preamble of the constitution and national symbols to instil a sense of identity in our society,” said Mabudafhasi.
District Mayor of Zululand Municipality, Cllr Hlatshwayo joined the Deputy Minister during the Mandela Month activities such as cleaning and painting at Zamimpilo Special School.
