Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi embarks on Public Participation Programme in Amathole and or Tambo District Municipalities

Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, will embark on the Public Participation Programme (PPP) from 10-11 May 2012, in Amathole and OR Tambo District Municipalities, particularly at Mhlahlane village and Mthatha, respectively.

During the Public Participation Programme, the deputy minister will reactivate the water supply for the Mhlahlane community by handing over two new boreholes and additional 30 water harvesting tanks. The Mhlahlane community had no access to water due to dilapidated water infrastructure. The intervention by the deputy minister is a short term plan that would ensure that the community access water whilst the long term plan to supply piped water is underway through the IBIKA Water Supply Scheme.

Deepening the advocacy of water conservation and protection of water resources, the deputy minister will visit the Mthatha Adopt a River project to inspect progress and engage the beneficiaries. She will conclude her PPP in the Eastern Cape by visiting Efata School for the blind and deaf, as part of her initiative to encourage special schools to participate in the departmental school based education programme on water and environment.
