Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi announces winners of the 2011 women in water awards

Mme Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, today announced winners of the 2011 Women in Water Awards at a ceremony held in Mbangwane village, near Komatipoort, Mpumalanga Province.

The Awards ceremony was the culmination of a voting process which started out with 235 quality submissions from entrants in all nine provinces. These were then whittled down to 26 finalists and 12 winners in eight categories.

Speaking at the Awards ceremony Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi said, “We are proud to honour women who are dedicated to the sustainability of scarce water supplies through efficient and effective strategies and whose contribution plays a significant role in the socio-economic development of the country.”

The 2011 Women in Water Awards winners joined the ranks of illustrious women who have been identified as leaders in the field of water management, since the Awards were first established in 2002.

“It is important that women protect and conserve water and environment, and be on the lookout for people who are polluting and endangering our water resources,” said Mabudafhasi.
