International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Luwellyn Landers arrived in Montevideo, in the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, on 1 March 2015 ahead of his official visit schedule for 2 to 3 March 2015.
The Deputy Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterpart, Jose Lius Cancela, and is also expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Establishment of a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism between South Africa and Uruguay. This MoU is important for the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Uruguay regards South Africa as a gateway into Africa, with the country having only two Embassies on the continent, namely Pretoria and Cairo.
